The complete birth dates of the children of Paul Kroes (1803) and Gertruda Willemse (1807) are: Theodora 22‑07‑1831, Helena 02‑08‑1835, Jantje (Johanna) 11‑07‑1838, Gerard 20‑04‑1841, Maria 15‑12‑1844, Joannes 24‑06‑1846, Paulus 23‑09‑1850.

Joannes ( Baptist ) *1846, was married  with Theodora Arnts and Paulus * 1818 ,with Anna Maria Arnts( geb.1855).

 

Besides the descendants of Ted Kroes and Paulus Kroes, there are in Racine WI descendants of a George Kroes  (25-10-1891 ‑ 1986). ( his birthname was Gerardus Cornelis). His parents were Jean Baptist Kroes(1846-1931)  in  Ooij NL and Theodora  Arnts ( 1847-1928) Ooij.

George Kroes came to Racine abt. 1922. His eldest daughter Mary was born in Ewijk in the Netherlands, all the other children in Racine.

George is buried at the Holy Cross cemetery in Racine WI., together with his wife Josephine E. Berjoverot .( 1892‑1967). He lived in Racine WI in a great yellow farmhouse and had a lot of land, which he sold in later years.

 

His children: Mary, born.1917 in Ewijk NL, the others in Racine WI: Johan 1920, Lambert 1923, Theodora 1923Josephina 1925, Theresia 1926, George 1928, Henry 1931, Paul 1933, all bor in Racine WI.

 

Theodora still lives with her daughter. She was married to John Madala ( 1911 ‑1983), who is buried in a mausoleum at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine WI.

Dorah Kroes (Paul’s daughter) was married to George Langeveld, a brother of Genevievre Langefeld, the mother of George (II) Oteman of Hialeah Drive in Racine WI. She deceased 19 December 1996 at the age of 92 years at Lincoln Lutheran Home.

Witnesses.: Nicolaas Driesen, bleacher 41 years.from Beek NL, an acquaintance; Theodorus Merkus, worker, 26 years. from Beek NL, an acquaintance : Jan van Vendeloo, constable 37 years from Beek NL, acquaintance; Hendrikus Awater, constable, 50 years, acquaintance .

   

Elisabeth was 19 years old when she  married, lives at Ooij NL, and is a daughter of Gerardus Kroes and Maria Arnts. The bridegroom, Johannes Wilhelmus Oteman (William) has complied with the law of the National Milition Service. Hendrina Awater, the mother of the bride had  already deceased. Immediately after her wedding she left her native country and emigrated with William to the States. Quite an undertaking in those days! She had a lot of troubles with the English language in the beginning. 

 

The mentioned witness, Hendrikus Awater, county policeman of Kekerdom NL, was a brother of William’s mother, Hendrina Awater and declared to be 50 years old at the moment of the marriage.( 27 febr.1891) This can't be correct. Constable H.Awater from  Kekerdom lived from 28‑07‑1839 until 09‑01‑1922 and was married with Wilhelmina Hermsen (16‑01‑1844 ‑‑ 11‑03‑1922). Both are the grand‑grandparents of Jan and Gerard van Eck.

The constable was said to be such a good‑natured man, that he could hardly summon somebody for violations. Once, when he had to transport a criminal vagabond from his small Dutch village, Kekerdom ,to jail in Arnhem NL, he was so moved by the heartbreaking lamenting of the prisoner, that he let him free. Twice he shot in the air in order to be able to show the empty cartridge cases at Arnhem NL to prove that the man had escaped!. However in Arnhem NL they saw through his stories and he got reprimanded.
